The Stonecrest Feral Cat Colony’s goal is to Trap, Neuter, and Release feral cats and stray cats in the Stonecrest subdivision in Mesquite, Texas. The organization also cares for the feral cat colony by feeding them and once a year (or when we can catch them) vaccinate and have a quick veterinary check up to keep the animals healthy.
The organization is registered as a small non-profit in the state of Texas since June 2016 and recognized by the IRS as a 501c3 since October 2016. We are also registered with the City of Mesquite, Texas as caretakers for this feral cat colony of 12 plus cats.

By Trapping, Neutering/Spaying and Releasing these feral and stray cats, the organization is:
- Reducing the size of the colony and need for extensive future care.
- Reducing the number of male fights and loud mating affairs during mating season.
- Reducing the exposure of the domestic pet population to feral animals which therefore reduces the spread of disease from non-neutered or non-vaccinated cats.
- Reducing the city’s shelter intake and therefore creating opportunities for other animals to be adopted.
- Reducing city expenses for handling abandoned animals/feral cats.
- Reducing euthanasia.
- Reducing the mice infestation by allowing the feral cat colony to continue to catch them (other types of vermin included).

The Colony
Blondie
Blondie was also born on June 11, 2014 (another of the 4 kittens siblings). She got her name because out of her 4 siblings she is the litter color similar to possibly her father a long hair (coffee and milk) color male that used to be around. I told you her sister Riska is a nervous, but let me tell Blondie is out of the chart nervous, she is the hardest of them all to capture, very afraid and very careful.
Goggles
Goggles also born in January 2015 saw her siblings being trapped and learned to avoid everything to be safe. It took a long time to catch her and in the meantime she was alone as her mother was getting ready for another litter. She because very wild and mean as she had to fend for herself at a very young age. Goggles is extremely dangerous and can hurt really bad as everything is self-defense for her. She got this name because when she was little she appeared to be wearing goggles.
Furball
Furball was born on June 11, 2014 on a litter of 7. His momma was not able to care for all and she abandoned 3 of the kittens and brought to my back yard 4 of the 7.
Furball, Riska, Blondie and Tiger. Furball is the largest of them all and he has a lot of fur. He is laid back and gentle compared to all others. He has been a healthy cat but his big problem is fur matting and that requires vet/grooming once a year when the vet comes by for their shots.
Caramelo
This is a male stray cat or maybe feral, it is hard to tell. He is not part of the colony but has been around long enough for the other cats to accept him. His name came form his coat color and he is difficult to catch to have him neuter, but he is my next one. Don’t tell him! Caramelo reminds me of Henry, similar yellow tabby I had for many years as a pet.
Momma
Momma was finally caught on January 18, 2016 when I used a drop trap to catch her. She saw her brother being trap on a regular trap and would never go inside one of those even when she was extremely hungry and pregnant. Momma is one of the 2 kittens that the initial feral cat family brought with them when they discover I was a sucker and would feed them. Since then, the patriarchal cat named Tuxi, her mother, her brother and a possible uncle are all gone. She stayed behind and until I was able to catch her, kept on having one litter after another. I know she has had more than the ones on this colony, but I am not sure where. The day I caught her was one of the most exciting days of my life as I knew the cycle would stop. She has been hanging around even though her kittens do not know she is their mother and I guess she doesn’t remember they are her kittens. But I know and I am caring the best I can for all of them.
M
M is the only male of the 3 Halloween kittens. He is very muscled and lean. Has beautiful dark striped and if I had not named Tiger already, M would definitely get the name. He does have a very distinct and pronounced “M” on his forehead therefore, the name. He has been a healthy feral cat for the most part but he has extremely territorial and independent.
Tuxi
He was the first feral cat that showed in late summer of 2012. He was very skinny and appeared to be sick. I fed him one can of wet food and he inhaled it and was ready for more. I gave another can and he ate again the whole serving. The he went to a quiet place in my backyard and started cleaning himself. I knew then he would be alright. Three days later he showed with his entire colony, his brother, mate and 2 kittens and then my new cause started. Tuxi is already gone – most likely have perished but I keep his memory alive by keeping him as part of the organization’s history.
Macaca
Macaca was born on October 31st, 2015 – she and her siblings are Halloween kittens. She has 2 siblings – Carolina and M. they were the last litter this momma cat had. At the time I did not know that but they were her last kittens. Macaca got her name because she can climb like a monkey and when she was little and try to escape from me she literary jump on the wall and climbed all the way to the ceiling.
Riska
Riska was born on June 11, 2014 (Furball sister). She was named after a line that runs down from her head to her nose. She is a bit nervous and easy spooked by any little thing. It appears to me that she leaves in a constant panic mode which is kind of normal for feral cats. She has been doing well and I hope she will stay this way.
Sassy
Sassy was born on April 2013 and she was brought to my back yard by their momma cat along 3 other siblings. Lito, Miu-Miu and Rambo which as all deceased now. All were tested positive for feline leukemia except Sassy. She is the only one remaining from the litter. She is very Sassy not only in looks with her long beautiful long hair but also in personality.
Shadow Jr.
Shadow Jr. also born sometime in January of 2015 was name after his great grandfather that used to come by eat, take an nap and disappear. Shadow Jr. is a mellow feral cat that for the most time is well behave. However, at shots time, he is difficult to catch and hold on to. He has been a healthy cat for a long time and I hope he stays as such.
Carolina
Carolina is also a Halloween kitten and she is very quiet and reserve always avoiding other cats and me. She is a master in hiding and unfortunately we found out she also has a Valentine’s heart. She is very difficult to get therefore, rarely I can give her the prescribed medicine to help her leave longer. Named her Carolina felt right somehow for no especial reason.
Tiger
Tiger also born on June 11, 2014 is the other male of the litter. He is a big as his brother Furball, however, he doesn’t appear so big because he has short hair and a few stripes that when he was a kitten looked very pronounced, therefore, his name – Tiger. Tiger started losing weigh rapidly and after consulting with the vet we found out he has an enlarged heart – called Valentine’s heart. He is on medicine – when I can catch him.
Sapeca
Sapeca was born sometime on January 2015. When her momma brought her and the siblings to my back yard, there 3 of them. Trapping them turned out to be difficult. However, one lucky day, Sapeca and her brother Shadow Jr. walked in the trap at the same time and both were trap together. Jackpot!!! However, he sister Goggles saw the whole trapping and learned really fast to stay away from the trap. Sapeca means “mischievous” and that’s a perfect name for her.
